Lomas Men's & Women's Rugby back in action!

After a long break, the Meraloma Men's and Women's teams finally returned to proper competition in recent weeks. On a sunny Saturday, Sept. 25, we were thrilled to see a huge turnout for our Meraloma Sponsor & Alumni Day, where we had hundreds of players, fans and friends come out to Connaught Park for four great senior Rugby games.

The Loma Men's 3rd Div team started the day with a win in a friendly match against the Rogues RFC, a club the Lomas are happy to help get back into action this year after a nearly decade-long hiatus. The Lomas Women's side had their first run of the year, featuring several new faces, in a tough game against a strong side from UBC.

Then the Lomas Men's 2nd XV had a thrilling win over the Rowing Club. Finally, our Men's Premier side lost a hard-fought match to our cross-town rivals the Rowers, who got revenge for the two team' last encounter, when the Lomas Prems beat the Rowers at Brockton Oval in their most recent encounter, back in Fall 2019.

Last weekend, on Oct. 2, the top two Lomas Men's teams travelled to Klahanie Park on the North Shore, and split a pair of games against the Capilanos. The Lomas 2nds had a convincing win, while the Lomas Premiers came up just short to the Caps, losing 24-22. The Loma Women also had a hard-fought game against the Caps, with a lot of new Lomas making their debuts.

Meanwhile, a new high-performance competition called the Coastal Cup is underway this Fall Season, with 3 regional rep teams, plus the Pacific Pride, UBC, UVic and Trinity Western University. We are proud to see the Meralomas well-represented on the Vancouver Wave team, featuring six Lomas Men in action for Vancouver last weekend when the side defeated UBC by a score of 34 to 22.

There will be no Rugby this weekend, as our athletes enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend. Happy Thanksgiving!
